Founded on strong work ethics and exceptional
customer service, Domar Transmission president, Elio
Scarpone, has carefully nurtured and grown the
business
from its humble beginnings as a small garage in 1975
to its now 16 thousand sq. ft. head office facility
at 130
Skyway Avenue in Rexdale, Ontario. They also have
one
other Ontario location in Woodbridge at 116
Ashbridge
Circle, and one location at 2073 Logan Avenue, Unit
#8
in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Domar Transmission is a family run business with
Elio’s
sons Rick Scarpone as Vice President, Marco Scarpone
as Manager and Rick and Marco’s uncle Guido Silla as
shop Foreman. Elio instilled in his sons an “old
school”
value system, which is evident when you walk through
the door – the customer is King.
“We enjoy this business,” said Rick Scarpone. “My
dad’s
been in this business in some form since 1960 and he
taught me everything I know. We take pride in what
we
do here.”
It
didn’t take long for Rick and Marco to embrace the
family-run company. From a young age Rick worked
hard
and in 1980, he committed to the business full-time.
Marco
followed suit in 1990.
“I used to help my dad everyday after school and
during
the summer months,” he said. “My dad’s emphasis was
on great customer service and my dad and I would
make
deliveries after five if needed to make sure that a
vehicle
got back on the road with little down time.”
One of the key reasons Domar Transmission is able to
continually achieve such high customer satisfaction
is
because of their staff. They employ seven mechanics,
and
six front end staff at their head office.
“Our
staff is the reason we’ve done so well,” he said.
“All of our technicians are the best; they are hard
working
and will go above and beyond to fix the problem,
which
the end user doesn’t get to see so they deserve
recognition
for all their hard work and we benefit as a company
because of them.”
Rick said he knows every employee by name and knows
their families as well. He, Marco, Guido and Elio
pride
themselves on providing their staff with a healthy
work
environment. |

A talented staff is not the only
reason Domar Transmission
has done so well over the years. They also have
a large inventory on-hand including transmissions for
on-road and off-road vehicles, differentials for on- and
off-road, clutches for all vehicles and re-manufactured
power steering boxes and pumps.
Some name brands include Fuller, Fuller Mid-Range,
Spicer, Navistar, Rockwell/Meritor, Mack, New Process,
Allison and GMC to name a few.
They supply new and
re-manufactured drivetrain and
steering components quickly when time is of utmost
importance and they test every transmission on a Dyno
Tester to ensure there are no noises, the air system is
working correctly and there are no other problems before
it exits the garage bay doors. Domar Transmission is truly
your complete Drivetrain shop.
“We have two large service bays here at our main location,
three bays at our Citywide/GTA location, where our
Allison Automatic transmissions are done, and three bays
in Winnipeg,” he said. “We provide service to dealers and
OEM’s nationwide, and our forte is to service our customers
well to save them money.”
Domar Transmission provides customers with a full one
year nationwide warranty on both parts and labour. They
stand behind the products they sell and the service they

“A dealer recently asked me to deliver two differentials to
Kitchener,” he said. “It was after five but I gladly delivered
them myself. We have good hearts and believe in an “old
school” approach to business.”

shop stays as clean as possible in such a greasy working
environment. They always meet, and often exceed, all
government environmental industry standards.
Rick said they are pleased to be able to contribute to,
and to support their local communities. They have made
generous donations to local charities and sports organizations.
The business has grown exponentially over the past
year and a half and as they look toward the future, they
see even more growth, particularly with the new JRC
Equipment division.
“We’ve grown by leaps and bounds,” Rick said. “We are
always looking to find better ways to service our customers
and to increase speed of delivery – our customers are
our priority.”
With growth comes new and improved ways to market
the business. Watch for their brand new website to launch
in the coming months. You may also find Domar at local
truck shows assisting various dealers they work with.
Rick attended the International Truck show in Las Vegas
in 2007 to learn about the newest technologies available,
and industry changes so that they can continue to stay
well ahead of the competition.
And as Elio looks towards the future.
“Dad is 74 and still likes to come in from time to time,”
Rick said. “But his interests lie in Italy right now and I think
he’ll be spending a bit more time there.”
